TerraFarm Privacy Policy

Overview

This Privacy Policy explains how TerraFarm collects, uses, stores, and shares information when you use the TerraFarm iOS app, website, account sync, subscriptions, and support services.

TerraFarm is a plant and farm management app that helps you track farms, plants, care actions, photos, diary notes, subscriptions, and related insights.

Information We Collect

Information you provide in the app

• Farm data, including farm names, location labels, environment setup, and optional sensor mappings.
• Plant data, including plant names/types, growth details, care history, task interactions, and harvest progress.
• Notes and diary content you create.
• Optional profile/display name.
• Photos/images you choose to upload.

Photo safety analysis

• Before an image upload is sent to cloud storage, the app analyzes the image on-device using Apple's Sensitive Content Analysis framework.
• If content is classified as sensitive, the upload is blocked and not uploaded.

Device, usage, diagnostics, and website data

• App analytics events, such as screens viewed, feature usage, task actions, paywall events, subscription status changes, and blocked image-upload reason codes.
• Crash and diagnostic information.
• Technical metadata such as app version, device type, browser type, general runtime information, and network information needed to operate the app and website.
• Basic website and hosting logs that may include IP address, user agent, requested URL, timestamps, and referrer information.
• Website analytics events collected through a dedicated TerraFarm Website Google Analytics stream, such as page views, navigation clicks, App Store button clicks, FAQ interactions, invite-link actions, optional Blog/social outbound-link clicks, referral/source information, device/browser context, and Web Vitals performance metrics.

Account and sync identifiers

• Anonymous Firebase authentication ID and app/device identifiers used to sync your data across devices.
• If you create or sign in to an account, we collect the email address, optional display name, provider identifier, and authentication metadata needed to keep the account working.
• If you choose Sign in with Apple, Apple provides authentication identifiers and, depending on your Apple privacy choices, your name and either your Apple ID email or a private relay email address.
• If you choose Google Sign-In, Google provides authentication identifiers and basic profile details needed to sign you in, such as your Google account email and display name.
• Firebase Authentication stores provider IDs and account-linking metadata so your farms, plants, subscriptions, and app data can remain available across supported sign-in methods.
• We do not receive your Apple ID password, Google password, or access to unrelated Apple or Google account content.

Purchases

• In-app purchase and subscription status information needed to provide TerraFarmPro access.
• Payment processing is handled by Apple; we do not receive your full payment card details.

Location and connected home data, if you enable it

• Location information you enter manually for farms.
• If you use current-location features, iOS may provide your location after permission.
• If you connect HomeKit, the app can read selected HomeKit sensor data you allow, such as temperature, humidity, or soil moisture.

How We Use Information

• Operate app features, including farm/plant management, tasks, reminders, onboarding, and sync.
• Create, authenticate, link, unlink, and recover access to optional TerraFarm accounts.
• Provide weather/context-aware recommendations and analytics.
• Store and sync your content across your devices.
• Process and validate TerraFarmPro entitlements.
• Improve reliability, performance, security, and product quality.
• Measure website performance, acquisition, engagement, and conversion separately from TerraFarm iOS app analytics.
• Protect users and enforce safety controls, including sensitive image upload blocking.
• Operate the website, support tooling, and App Store review/compliance links.

Legal Bases

Depending on your region, we process data based on:

• Performance of a contract, to provide the app services you request.
• Legitimate interests, including security, reliability, fraud prevention, and product improvement.
• Consent, for notifications, location, HomeKit, camera/photo access, and other OS permissions where required.
• Compliance with legal obligations.

Services and Processors We Use

• Apple: Sign in with Apple, StoreKit, App Store subscriptions, iOS system frameworks, HomeKit permissions, WeatherKit, and Sensitive Content Analysis.
• Firebase by Google: Firebase Hosting, Authentication, Anonymous Auth, Email/Password Auth, Firestore, Storage, Analytics, Crashlytics, Remote Config, Cloud Functions, and related infrastructure.
• Google: Google Sign-In, if you choose that login option, and Google Analytics/Google tag for website measurement.
• Apple Weather / WeatherKit: weather context used by in-app weather features.
• Substack: optional TerraFarm Blog pages linked from the website, if you choose to visit or subscribe there.
• Instagram / Meta: optional TerraFarm social profile links from the website, if you choose to visit them.

These providers process data according to their own terms and privacy policies.

Sharing of Information

We do not sell your personal information.

We share data only as needed to:

• Provide requested functionality through our service providers.
• Complete purchases and restore entitlements via Apple.
• Provide optional account login through Apple, Google, or Firebase Authentication.
• Comply with law, enforce our terms, or protect rights and safety.

When you choose to open external Blog, Instagram, App Store, Apple, Google, Firebase, or other third-party links, those services may receive information according to their own privacy policies. TerraFarm does not control those third-party sites.

Retention

We retain data for as long as needed to provide app functionality, account continuity, security, support, and legal purposes.

• Local app data remains on your device until removed.
• Synced cloud data is retained while your app account/data remains active, unless deleted through app functionality or support handling.
• Short-lived account-linking metadata may be retained briefly for security, sync, and support workflows.
• Diagnostic, analytics, hosting, and security records may be retained for operational analysis and fraud/security prevention.

Your Choices and Rights

Depending on your region, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your data, and to object to or restrict some processing.

• Manage notification, location, camera, photo, and HomeKit permissions in iOS Settings.
• Remove farms/plants/notes/images from the app.
• Use TerraFarm without creating an Apple, email, or Google account; account login is optional.
• Sign out of an account from the Profile screen or TerraFarm Account sheet without deleting synced data.
• Manage or revoke Sign in with Apple or Google Sign-In access through your Apple ID, Google Account, iOS, or provider settings where available.
• Delete all app data from the Profile screen, or contact us for help with privacy requests.
• Use browser controls, privacy extensions, or device settings to limit website analytics/cookies where available.
• Avoid optional Blog and social links if you do not want to interact with those third-party services.

Children

The app and website are not directed to children under 13, or an older age where required by local law, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children in violation of applicable law.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect data. No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure.

International Data Transfers

Your information may be processed in countries other than your own, where we or our providers operate. We use appropriate safeguards where required by law.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the "Last updated" date above, and where required provide additional notice.
